A Christian Critique of Jordan Peterson

Jordan Peterson has challenged and revitalized our postmodern conceptions of meaning, morality and religion. But without the metaphysics of Christianity, it is unclear how some of Peterson’s optimistic claims can be grounded. The result is that he sounds like an atheist when he talks to a Christian, but he sounds like a Christian when he talks to an atheist. Without a literal God, the Jungian psychologist is essentially an atheist with extra steps. Regardless, is Peterson ultimately a friend or a foe of traditional Christianity?

Nietzsche on God and Suffering

One of Nietzsche’s keen observations has to do with human suffering. In the Genealogy of Morals, Nietzsche points out that whenever we suffer, no matter how alone we feel, there is a deep suspicion that someone is witnessing our pain. This witness, says Nietzsche, allows us to escape the unacceptable idea that our suffering is senseless and meaningless.

Is Christianity A Reasonable Worldview?

With so many religions in the world and secular scientism dominating the academy, it seems to many people that a serious belief in a single (especially religious) worldview is naive, narrow minded, and obviously preposterous. So the question stands, is Christianity a reasonable worldview for the 21st century?
